6 Tips on how to survive highschool

I haven't had the chance to write a post for 10 days now due to work commitments but its gave me plenty of chance to think of a topic to write about. As you may know here in the UK many year 11s have just finished their final days of school life and well, have taken to facebook to either have a good moan about how they miss school already and their friends or how theyre so glad they have left that "hell" and have finally realised who their "true mates" are... so I bring to you Surviving Highschool.

I didn't have the best of or easiest time at school, there was tears, there was arguments and there was plenty of skiving. Looking back i feel like I learned a lot through my time and if it wasn't for all of those tough struggles and determination i wouldn't be who I am today. So im going to give you 6 tips based on my experience on how to get through school as smoothly as possible:

1) Be with the right people!
Meeting new people is one of the hardest things, especially when you're thrown into a completely new environment. But whats even harder is hanging around with people who make you feel worthless. Ditch those toxic friends and find people who bring out the best in you. The main aim of most teenagers school life is to be "popular", well let me tell you popularity isnt everything, it brings plenty of bitchiness. As i have gotten older i have found it much more satisfying to have very few true friends, the ones who understand and always stick by you.

2) Get your head down!
Its very easy to get distracted during your studies. You're in class, you're sat next to your friend, its hard not to have a good gossip about whats happening on facebook, but while you're chatting away you're completely missing what the teacher is saying. I did this a lot and when it came to completing work I struggled, I had no idea what to do and i darent ask the teacher for help as i had already been told many times to pay attention. Fortunately i was lucky when it came to the final exams, I managed to get all my predicted grades and higher! I know what its like when you're studying for 8+ subjects and you're thinking to yourself "whats the point im never going to use y=x+6" but trust me you will regret not giving it your all when you're older and youve finally thought of the perfect career you wish to pursue but cant because you dont have the grades to get into college. Its hard but just remember its all worth it in the end.

3) Always be open to trying new things!
During my school time I joined many after school activity clubs e.g dancing, cross country, athletics. As i got older and into my last few years i was asked to participate in many other extra curricular activities but didnt as i was afraid i would be seen as "uncool", i didnt want to draw attention to myself, so instead i just blended into the background. Boy do i regret it now, there was so many things i wish i joined in with, i would have had way more achievements to brag about! I was once asked to represent my region by joining their athletics team, of course i said no due to lack of confidence, but who knows i could have been the next Jessica  Ennis... Okay maybe not, but i could have been successful in it. What i am trying to say is dont be afraid to get stuck in, dont worry about what other people will say or think, theyre the fools for not doing things they love!

4) Love yourself for who you are!
We're all guilty for reading the magazines and wishing we looked like all those A-list celebs or comparing ourselves to those pretty girls in the shopping mall, but what does that do? knock our confidence, make us find faults in ourselves and resulting in us wanting to change. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to clothes, makeup, hair etc so don't for one second think that your choices are wrong just because theyre different to the "popular" girls. In order for other people to love you, you need to love yourself, it doesn't hurt to show a little confidence and realise that you are beautiful by just being you.
5) Don't put too much pressure on yourself!
Opposed to what I said in number 2 ranting and raving about achieving those high grades, you also need to ensure you keep calm and don't put too much pressure on yourself if you feel as though you're crumbling. As long as you try your best that's all what matters, keep focused and everything should run smoothly.
6) BE YOU!
My final piece of advice is to just simply and plainly be you. "Be yourself" is the most common phrase in history when it comes to giving advice. But what do people mean by this phrase? Oscar Wilde once said Be yourself; everyone else is already taken this is a basic summation of the truth. Why try to be someone else when you can be you and build something new. You can grow into anything you want and go as far as you wish. In reality you need to please yourself before anyone else in order to be happy, and nothing is more important in life than being happy.
Okay so maybe this might not make sense at all but ive tried explaining my thoughts as clearly as I can. Teenage years are tough and even when you leave school it doesn't get any easier, infact it gets harder as you have to slowly make the transition into an adult. But that's a whole completely different story, which I might one day enlighten you on.

ESPYS 2015: Kylie vs Kendall

Kylie and Kendall Jenner have once again gone all out for another red carpet event. Everyone has gone crazy over Kylies gold sequin turtleneck gown by Lebanese designer Shady Zeineldine. However im not took up on this dress, i personally thought it was a bit too in your face, quite cabaret like i suppose. Kylie on the other hand didnt fail to disappoint. The 19 year old selected a more classy style by fashioning a black sheer chiffon Alexandre Vauthier Couture design featuring sheer panels and sequin accents, plus Stuart Weitzman heels. Other than the dress i thought Kylie looked amazing, i loved her gold metallic shadow and a matte mauve lipstick. i always envy how flawless her skin is, especially for a 17 year old teenager, how does she do it? Both sisters chose to wear their hair down, Kendall with a middle parting, tucking pieces behind her ears and letting the length fall down her back, while Kylie had an off center parting with textured waves and no extenisons (Loving the natural look Kylie!) Overall both of the stars looked stunning but maybe tone the dress down next time Kylie?

Let me know what your opinion is of the Jenners outfits...

New CID Mascara Review

Every month I buy the Cosmopolitan magazine, not only do i love the juicy content but the freebies they include are a huge plus! In this months edition Cosmo was kind enough to give us all a bottle of the New CID I-Intense Mascara (High intense volumising) in black. I am very reluctant when it comes to trying out new mascaras as i hate it when you re left with clumpy "spider legs" eyelashes, i am quite comfortable with my current mascara i own. However i had run out of my usual so i had no choice but to give this a go and boy am i glad i did. I love the brush, the texture and the end result. You can create such long looking lashes with just a few little coats.
My eyelashes really don't do this mascara justice, but trust me this is a miracle for me. I have never been able to get any mascara to help lengthen my lashes like this one has done as they are so naturally short. The brush has a profusion of bristles in a spiral like shape, so the best technique when applying is to twirl the brush and slide it up your eyelashes. This spreads out the lashes and prevents them from clumping together. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone who loves naturally looking, long eyelashes like i do!
Not only is the contents incomparable but the bottle alone is attractive to the eye. Rather than your mundane, cliché block colours New CID has made the bottle to be mirrored, how jazzy! You can purchase this product from John Lewis or the New CID Cosmetics website itself. I admit it is quite pricey at £18.50 but it is totally worth the money. I would love to hear your opinion if you have ever tried out this mascara, don't be afraid to get in touch!

Hair tutorial - Beach wave curls and headband using own hair

Lately I've been trying to style my hair in different, but yet simple and stylish ways. I've done lots of experimenting and was quite happy with how this look turned out so I thought I would share with you on how I achieved it. I started off with freshly washed and messily blow-dried hair. Using my Babyliss curling wand i created beach wave curls by taking medium sized sections of hair at a time. Once all the hair was curled I gave it a good spritz using Wella Silvikrin hairspray in maximum hold (This hairspray is a godsend!) and run my fingers through the ends to loosen and spread out the curls, giving the hair a messy texture. The headband is actually my real hair, all I did was grab a section of hair from behind my ear (doesn't matter how big or small the section it all depends on what size you want your plait and if you have enough hair to hide the missing chunk). I then plaited this section and pulled it right over my head where i wanted the headband to sit and gripped it behind my opposite ear. I then repeated this process on the other side creating a double headband. Behind the plaits i decided to backcomb my hair just to help it stay set back and to create extra volume. If there is anything that you don't understand do leave a comment and I will try to explain in more detail for you. If any of you re-create this look do show me, post it on your Instagram and be sure to tag me in it!

No7 Make-up Brushes Review

These are my everyday make-up brushes. They're limited edition by No7 in gold. These are the best brushes I have ever come across, they apply make-up brilliantly, the bristles are so soft, I have not seen one bristle ever fall out (Like my previous rubbish brushes!) and they're so pretty! I honestly don't know how i ever applied make-up without them. The set includes (From left to right) Powder brush, Foundation brush, Smokey Eye-liner brush, Lip brush and a Blend & Contour brush (which i have no idea what is used for so any help and advice will be nice). My favourite one would have to be the Foundation brush, it applies the liquid so smoothly all over and creates a flawless look. I would definitely recommend these to anyone seeking better make-up application. Now I doubt this set will still be available as like I said these are limited edition, i got them at Christmas time, but I'm 100% sure that other No7 brushes will be the same just a different colour. If anyone else has these do comment as i would love to hear if your opinion on them is as positive as mine!
